New Brunswick Train Station is only a 10-15 minute walk from the relevant area of campus and your local hotels.
Air:
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is the closest major airport to Rutgers–New Brunswick (about 24 miles).
After you land, take the AirTrain from your terminal to Newark Liberty International Airport Station.
From there, board an NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line train heading toward Trenton and get off at New Brunswick Station.
You can also fly into JFK or LaGuardia, get into Penn Station in Manhattan, and then take NJ Transit to New Brunswick.

Train:
A lot of universities are located along the northeast corridor and may be accessible via rail.
New Brunswick is on NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line, which runs between New York Penn Station (in Manhattan), Newark, Newark Liberty Airport Station, Metropark, and Trenton. A fully detailed schedule can be seen here:

Amtrak does stop in New Brunswick, but only on a limited set of trains.
Note that booking Amtrak to Metropark Station (an Amtrak stop just north of New Brunswick), then switch to an NJ Transit local train from Metropark to New Brunswick. That NJ Transit hop takes roughly 10–15 minutes and typically costs only a few dollars.
Driving:
Rutgers–New Brunswick sits near several major highways, including the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95), the Garden State Parkway, U.S. Route 1, and I-287.
From the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95):
Take Exit 9 (New Brunswick)
Follow signs for NJ-18 North toward New Brunswick
Continue on NJ-18 North and follow signs into New Brunswick / Rutgers.
